Yoko Taro believes that Stellar Blade is much better than Nier: Automata and makes him very jealous,Nier game director Yoko Taro thinks the upcoming Stellar Blade is “much better” than Automata and makes him “very jealous.” In an interview with IGN Japan alongside Stellar Blade director Hyun-Tae Kim, Taro praised the soon-to-be released game, albeit with his usual humor.
Taro admitted that he has long been a fan of Kim’s work and considers him his senior colleague in the industry, despite the age difference. He admires the quality of the illustrations and 3D models in Kim’s games, such as Magna Carta: Tears of Blood and Blade & Soul, and has been surprised by the quality of Korean games in general.
The Nier veteran also praised Stellar Blade’s “nextgen quality” graphics and “amazing” character designs. He is jealous of how Kim and his studio worked hard on the game together, in contrast to his own work with outside developers.
When Taro was asked if PlatinumGames’ Bayonetta influenced the decision to create Automata, he responded in the negative, noting the differences in game styles. Kim, in turn, admires the unique vision and design of Nier: Automata, doubting that Stellar Blade can compete with it.
Taro modestly dismissed the praise, saying that Automata’s story was “just a retelling of Evangelion” without much originality. However, he advises players to try Stellar Blade when it releases on April 26th.
