SHOGUN READY TO BREAK GAME OF THRONES’ EMMY NOMINATION RECORD?
If HBO decided to nominate The Sympathizer for 27 Emmy Awards , FX demonstrated an even more bombastic ambition by nominating the acclaimed TV series Shogun for 40 statuettes at the 2024 Emmys .
The update arrived in these hours via Variety, which confirmed that after the renewal of Shogun for seasons 2 and 3 the FX show, born as a TV mini-series and expected at the Emmys in the categories dedicated to limited series, will instead officially part of the categories of TV drama series , i.e. those destined to continue with new seasonal episodes.
In this category, Shogun will compete with Netflix’s The Crown 6, Apple’s The Morning Show and Prime Video’s Fallout , all of which hope to be among the five official candidates in a competition that, due to the many postponements generated by the strikes of 2023, it won’t be as crowded as the mini-series category. Furthermore, FX confirmed exclusively to Variety that Shogun will aim to obtain 40 nominations at the 2024 Emmys , having come forward – among others – for six nominations for directing, four for writing and two guest actors.
Let’s remember that the record for nominations in a single year at the Emmys belongs to Game of Thrones , which managed to obtain an impressive 32 official nominations with its last season: will Shogun be able to beat this monumental record?
