Amazon’s gaming division has announced the opening of its first European office. A new studio has opened in Bucharest, Romania. The team will develop and release games. Amazon Games already has offices in Montreal, San Diego, Seattle and Orange.

The Amazon Games office in Bucharest is headed by Cristian Pana, former managing director of Ubisoft Bucharest and with more than 20 years of experience in the gaming industry. He had a hand in the projects The Division, The Crew, Far Cry and Avatar.

The Amazon Games portfolio includes two service titles – New World and Lost Ark. New games in the Tomb Raider, The Lord of the Rings and Throne and Liberty series are also in the works. Divisions in San Diego and Montreal are working on unannounced projects.

It’s funny that Amazon Games opened a new studio in Europe six months after the layoffs . In November 2023, the company laid off 180 employees in its gaming division.
