Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth can now arrive on PC exclusivity on PS5 has ended

The exclusivity period of Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth on PS5 ended a few hours ago, which means that from today Square Enix’s JRPG could arrive on PC and other platforms.

Starting today, Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth could arrive on other platforms , in particular on PC, at least theoretically, given that the exclusivity period for PS5 has ended . As you may remember, this date was indicated in a trailer shown during the State of Play last September, which indicated that the game “will not be available in other formats until May 29, 2024 “, i.e. yesterday.

We would like to point out that this does not mean that the game will debut on the Epic Games Store or Steam at any moment. Indeed, considering the precedents, it is likely that several months of waiting will be necessary. Furthermore, not knowing precisely the agreements made between Square Enix and Sony, we do not know if the game will be available only on PC or also on Xbox. After all, four years after its launch, Final Fantasy 7 Remake has not yet arrived on the green and cross consoles.

The Final Fantasy 16 and Final Fantasy 7 Remake cases and Square Enix’s new strategy

In short, it is impossible to estimate exactly when Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth will actually be on other platforms. But on the other hand we can get an idea by looking at past cases. For example, the exclusivity of Final Fantasy 16 on PS5 ended on December 31, 2023 , however to date the game can only be found on PlayStation, as far as we know the PC version is in the final stages of development .

In the case of Final Fantasy 7 Remake , however, the exclusivity period on PlayStation platforms ended on April 21, 2021, but the PC version arrived (initially exclusively for the Epic Games Store) only in December of the same year.

It must be said, however, that Square Enix recently announced a new commercial strategy, which aggressively shifts towards a multiplatform approach , with the intention of bringing a greater number of games to Nintendo Switch, Xbox and PC at launch. As a result, it is possible that Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth will arrive on other platforms with shorter waiting times than previous games in the series. We’ll see.
