Elden Ring is the source of inspiration for Final Fantasy 14 Dawntrail, as revealed by the director of the MMO video game. Let’s see how the RPG influenced the RPG.

Final Fantasy 14 Dawntrail is the Dark Souls of MMOs. Or rather the Elden Ring of MMOs. It’s not a joke, at least not entirely. The director of the role-playing game has in fact revealed that the development team was inspired by FromSoftware’s work in working on the new expansion.

How? Mainly regarding the design of the game world , which is certainly a great advantage of Elden Ring.

Yoshida’s words on Elden Ring and Final Fantasy 14

As revealed in an interview with PC Gamer, Naoki Yoshida said, “I think on the Final Fantasy 14 development team, maybe 98% [of them] are playing Elden Ring .” He admits that those involved in designing the next expansion’s battles were particularly enamored with Soulslikes, joking that, in those developers’ minds, the “perfect balance” for the MMO’s encounters would make them nearly impossible for most of the players.

Turning serious, Yoshida says that players will likely notice the Elden Ring inspirations when it comes to the game’s world design. The scenery and atmosphere of Dawntrail’s many locations will convey the overall themes and style of the characters and locations without needing much text or exposition. “Elden Ring does this really well,” notes Yoshi-P, “and I think there are people on the team who are very inspired by that as well.”

We remember Final Fantasy XIV: Dawntrail will be published on July 2nd and will be available in Early Access (for those who pre-order the game) on June 28th, seven days after Shadow of the Erdtree.

Finally, we point out that Yoshida also revealed that the team is working on two new games .
