Fallout 2 achieved great critical and public acclaim at the time of its release on PC in 1998, and the Interplay classic is preparing to revive in a completely new guise: for some time, in fact, a group of enthusiasts has been making an amateur remake that is increasingly taking shape.

Video editor Damion Daponte has put together a team of about 100 modders all working on Project Arroyo , the code name of the Fallout 2 remake whose development is making ” rapid progress “, according to what the creator reported in the course of an interview with The Gamer portal . The project doesn’t just visually update the original work, it goes even further: ” We’re making new areas with our map to make sure players don’t find themselves wandering around empty deserts. There are a lot of unique environments , including a house haunted by a character straight out of a slasher movie ,” Daponte says.

In recent months the team behind Project Arroyo has also created a video comparison with 1998’s Fallout 2, further highlighting the differences and technical advances behind the project. The remake is made through the Fallout 4 engine , with the authors therefore recreating Fallout 2 through first-person views and the Action/RPG style that has characterized the series since Fallout 3 , when it came under the control of Bethesda .

At the moment Project Arroyo still doesn’t have a clear release date , with the team led by Daponte first wanting to make sure they don’t run into any type of legal problem with the project. In any case, the platform chosen for the launch should be Steam , as for the author ” it is a platform that everyone has and where it is easier to access, update and install, it is simply more efficient “.

What do you think of the fan-made remake of Fallout 2? Meanwhile, the franchise is enjoying new popularity after the great success of the TV series of the same name: Fallout 76 has reached 20 million users and the previous games have all enjoyed a surge in sales.
