The Game Kitchen has revealed that Larian Studios was one of the main financiers of the first Blasphemous during the Kickstarter campaign.
Evidently, Larian Studios, the team behind Baldur’s Gate 3 , are huge Metroidvania fans, considering they have emerged as a major Kickstarter backer of one of the best-known indie titles in the genre, Blasphemous .
The issue remained rather under the radar, but it represented an important support for the indie team The Game Kitchen at the time of the development of the first Blasphemous, given that Larian Studios provided an important sum to carry on the work, although the amount of money was not reported precisely.
“Not many people know this, but Larian Studios was one of the biggest backers during Blasphemous’ Kickstarter campaign,” level designer Enrique Colinet revealed in a recent X post.
A fascinating metroidvania
Apparently, the Baldur’s Gate 3 team “provided a four-figure sum , never even asked to be officially recognized, and just went on their way to making one of the best games we’ve made in years,” he said. Colinet reported.
The donation was made collectively by the studio, so it is not clear how the expense was divided, but it still appears as support provided directly by Larian Studios apparently, which therefore appears to have been one of the main financiers of Blasphemous.
In fact, the metroidvania in question is one of the most fascinating ones released recently, and its success also led to the creation of Blasphemous 2 , consolidating the title into a real series.
