Star Wars Outlaws Assassin’s Creed Shadows and little else: is this the new reality of Ubisoft?

Ubisoft has decided to focus on a few high-profile productions, but will Star Wars Outlaws and Assassin’s Creed Shadows be enough to achieve the company’s goals?

Few but good: this is Ubisoft’s new strategy, which after some bitter disappointments has decided to cancel the projects that gave less guarantees in favor of a limited selection of high-level productions, in this specific case Star Wars Outlaws and Assassin’s Creed Shadows .

It is precisely these two titles that monopolized the Ubisoft Forward broadcast last night ; and although it was already clear that Kay Vess, little Nix, the samurai Yasuke and the shinobi Naoe would be the absolute protagonists of the event, when Yves Guillemot went on stage for the final greetings without a shred of “one more thing” it was a bit of sadness came over.

Forward, but relatively

The list of games presented during the Ubisoft Forward speaks clearly: beyond the aforementioned Star Wars Outlaws and Assassin’s Creed Shadows, very little was seen, mainly updates of titles already published : XDefiant, Skull and Bones, Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown, The Rogue Prince of Persia, Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora and The Crew Motorfest.

There were only two new announcements : one is that of Anno 117: Pax Romana , undoubtedly exciting but only for a small circle of enthusiasts; the other, very short, instead proposed that remake of Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time of which all news had been lost, and which apparently will arrive in 2026.

Far Cry 7 at Gamescom?

There was talk of an imminent announcement for Far Cry 7 , but not having seen the game at Ubisoft Forward we can only imagine that it will be presented at Gamescom in August , while for the launch we assume February or March of next year: a period unguarded for the moment , but which would contribute to the results of Ubisoft’s current fiscal year.

There are certainly other projects in the pipeline, for example we are curious to find out what the Mario + Rabbids team will come up with, but for the moment Ubisoft’s new approach is making itself felt and it is natural to ask ourselves if at this point it still makes sense for the French company will organize an entire conference instead of relying on Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo showcases.
