As part of a fan project to create a remake of Fallout 2 (Project Arroyo), more than 100 developers are already working, and development is going very well. According to project manager Damion Daponte, the team intends to release the game on Steam.

In a recent interview with The Gamer, Daponte talked about the progress of Project Arroyo and how the team is planning for the game’s release.

I’m leaning towards doing everything like Enderal: Forgotten Stories (a Skyrim mod with a similar goal) and releasing the game on Steam. This is a platform that everyone has. Easier to access, update and install. It’s just more efficient.

However, putting it on Steam requires legal security, as Project Arroyo uses the Fallout 4 engine to reimagine Fallout 2 from Bethesda’s first-person perspective.

We will need to understand all the legal nuances to ensure that the game requires Fallout 2 and Fallout 4 with all expansions and avoid legal problems. But let’s see – we are still studying this issue. Personally, I lean towards Steam.

Daponte also discussed the possibility of Project Arroyo coming to Steam Deck:

Perhaps we’ll see. I don’t even know if mods work well on Steam Deck to be honest. I’ll have to ask my friends.

The Project Arroyo X account also features a variety of new concepts, including the landscape of a new location, the Oakland Crater. Filled with an ominous green liquid, this crater looks like a busy town despite the streams of radioactive goo. There are also interesting weapon designs, such as the Power Fist. The team actively shares updates on X, so that’s the best place to keep track of progress.

If the concepts aren’t enough, you can take a look at the comparison between the original Fallout 2 and the upcoming mod. The short YouTube video shows a variety of locations, such as the Temple of Trials, hunting grounds and village, as well as the fluorescent green Toxic Caves. It’s impressive how accurately the team recreated the original atmosphere in first-person 3D.
