Insider: a remake of Final Fantasy 9 has been in development for a long time the game could be released on several platforms at once
Development of the proposed Final Fantasy 9 remake is progressing well, and Square Enix could release the game before April 2025. At least this was stated by the famous Midori insider on X.
Last month, following various claims from other insiders, Midori confirmed that a remake is indeed in development. No additional details were provided at the time, but now an insider (known for his SEGA/Atlus leaks) has shared new information about the remake .
According to him, development was initially transferred to a third-party company, but then Square Enix took the project back because it was not satisfied with the results. While the insider can’t confirm a release date, he does claim that development is at a “very advanced stage” and the game could release before the end of Square Enix’s current fiscal year, which ends March 31, 2025.
Midori added:
The development of the game is at a very advanced stage, but I do not have exact information about the scale or the exact release period. However, the game may be released before the end of the current financial year, but I am not sure.
While there’s a chance that a multi-platform remake of Final Fantasy 9 will be unveiled at the Xbox Showcase this Sunday, the insider advises not to get your expectations too high.
There are plans to showcase select Square Enix games at the Xbox Showcase. I don’t know if this game will be at the showcase. Therefore, it is better not to raise expectations yet. And yes, the game is planned for release on several platforms.
Square Enix will not hold a separate event as part of the Summer Game Fest, but will present its games as part of the main shows.
