Helldivers 2’s review bombing cape is ready Arrowhead is waiting for the right time to release it
Barring any surprises, Helldivers 2 players will soon receive a free cape that symbolizes the numerous negative reviews given to the game last month due to the controversy on PSN accounts.
Do you remember the Helldivers 2 review bombing cape jokingly suggested by Arrowhead Games Studios after last month’s controversy? Well, it wasn’t a joke at all and the studio actually created this cape and is now just waiting for the right time to put it in the game.
The confirmation came from creative director John Pilestedt, who in response to the question posed by a user said: “We did it (the cape), but we want to find the right time to publish it”, without however adding further details on the timing.
The history of the cloak of review bombing
For those who don’t have a clue what we’re talking about, at the beginning of last month a huge controversy erupted over Helldivers 2 after it was announced that PC players would soon have to connect a PlayStation account to play, which would it has inevitably annoyed those who can’t stand the idea of having to create a profile specifically for a game and those living in countries where it’s just not possible to create one.

The controversy resulted in a massive review bombing campaign by players, which led to a shower of negative reviews on Steam , convincing Sony to backtrack. Once he made peace with the players, then-CEO John Pilested had jokingly talked about turning the graph showing the trend of positive and negative reviews of Helldivers 2 into the motif of one of the capes worn by the characters in the game.
