The latest Helldivers 2 patch may have inadvertently tightened the game’s difficulty level, even though the developers’ goal was completely different.
A few days ago a large update for Helldivers 2 was published which brought with it a very long list of balance changes and improvements, but perhaps also some problems. As reported in recent days by players on Reddit and social media, it seems that the patch has inadvertently increased the difficulty of the missions , especially those of the higher levels, despite the developers’ objective being diametrically opposite.
In fact, in the update notes the developers published this week claim to have reduced the number of armored enemies that appear in the higher difficulty missions by replacing them with smaller and less dangerous ones. Furthermore, changes to the groups of enemies that patrol the areas previously made with patch 1,000,300 and not appreciated by players have been revised.

All this theoretically should have lowered the game’s high challenge rate or at least prevented the creation of chaotic situations where players are surrounded on all sides by numerous enemies, especially large ones. However, some users are reporting that they have instead noticed an increase in difficulty.

Obviously the one in the video above should be an extreme case, but browsing the comments on Reddit there are many reports of matches that become a real hell from which it is impossible to emerge victorious.
The situation seems to have also caught the developers off guard, as demonstrated by the message published by community manager Twinbeard on the official Helldivers 2 Discord in response to a user, where he stated that the team will investigate the matter:
“Wait a minute. I haven’t had time to play yet, but are you saying the game is harder now? The reverted changes to spawns and patrols should make the game easier, from what I know. I need to monitor the situation before I can clarify it, but it seems a bit strange to me straight away.”
