Hellblade 2: How to Remove Black Bars and Chromatic Aberration on PC

In just a few minutes it is possible to remove black bars, chromatic aberration and more from the PC version of Senua’s Saga Hellblade 2.

Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2 features black bars at the vertical edges of the screen for reasons of cinematic staging . A choice not appreciated by all players, in particular because it is not possible to remove them via the game options or by changing the resolution. Fortunately, a simple and quick modification of a game file is enough to overcome this problem and, if desired, also disable chromatic aberration and the grain effect filter.

To do this, simply edit the Engine.ini file inside one of the game folders. To be precise, it is located at the path Users\name\%LOCALAPPDATA%\Hellblade2\Saved\Config\.

The file is located in the “WinGDK” folder if you purchased Hellblade 2 on the Microsoft Store or are playing it via Game Pass, or in “Windows” if you purchased it on Steam. Once the Engine file is open, scroll to the bottom of the list and add the following commands under (SystemSettings) depending on what you want to change.

Remove black bars:
r.NT.AllowAspectRatioHorizontalExtension=0
r.NT.EnableConstrainAspectRatio=0

Remove film grain effect: r.FilmGrain=0

Remove lens distortion effect:
r.NT.Lens.Distortion.Intensity=0
r.NT.Lens.Distortion.Stretch=0
