A former The Witcher 3 developer noted that some of CD Projekt’s best employees began their careers as modders. This comment comes shortly after CD Projekt RED released a powerful new modding tool for the 2015 game.

This week, The Witcher 3: REDkit modding tool was released on Steam as a free modding tool for all owners of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. Developed by CDPR, this tool gives users the ability to modify quests, cutscenes, animations, items, and more. You can also create your own original storylines and epic battles.

Pavel Sasko, who previously worked as a senior quest designer on The Witcher 3, spoke about his special relationship with modding in his tweet. He added that some of the best developers at CD Projekt started their careers as modders, turning their love of video games and art into a daily job.

Some of the developers Sasko talked about are featured in the video from CD Projekt. Quest design expert Danish Markievicz and lead quest designer Blazej Augustinek explained how they started modding PC games for fun. The Witcher’s current director of storytelling, Philipp Weber, also shared that he got his start in game development by creating maps for Age of Empires 2.

Weber has been working with REDkit for several weeks now. He modified the best quest of the Blood and Wine expansion to bring it closer to his original idea , which was changed by other developers almost ten years ago.
