According to some estimates based on last year’s sales data, Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 will have to bring at least 2.5 million new subscribers to Xbox Game Pass to compensate for the lost revenue.
Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 will have to bring at least 2.5 million new subscribers to Xbox Game Pass to compensate for the lost revenue, according to some estimates based on the sales data of the shooter produced by Activision for 2022.
“The math suggests that Xbox will need to add at least 2.5 million new Game Pass subscribers for this to make sense,” wrote journalist Brad Sams, referring to Black Ops 6 launching directly on Game Pass .
“It would be really great if the total numbers were between 4.7 and 5 million or, in a perfect world, 11 million to fully recover the potential sales lost during the first month.”
Sustainability in a nutshell
As mentioned, Sams based itself on 2022 data, which spoke of a billion dollars in revenue at launch for Call of Duty , of which approximately 35% between PS4 and PS5 (4.4 million copies sold) and Xbox positioned more or less half that value, at least at the time.

This means, according to the journalist, that Microsoft would have to extract between 150 and 200 million dollars from new subscriptions to compare with what it could have achieved without including the shooter in the Xbox Game Pass catalog.
In short, when we talk about the sustainability of Game Pass , we should take this data into consideration to understand whether the Redmond company’s strategy is working or not .
