Niko Partners: During the first quarter PS5 shipments were almost five times higher than those of the Xbox Series

Niko Partners analyst Daniel Ahmad, commenting on PlayStation’s quarterly report yesterday,compared PS5 shipments to Xbox Series X|S shipments for the first three months of 2024.

As you know, Sony shipped 4.5 million PS5 consoles during the quarter. As Ahmad wrote, that’s “nearly five times the volume” of Xbox Series X|S shipments over the same period. It turns out that Microsoft shipped less than a million of its consoles during the period – 800-900 thousand.

Ahmad added that the actual sales ratio of PS5 and Xbox Series X|S since the launch of the consoles is 2:1, but in the last year the gap has begun to widen. Ampere Analysis wrote that in 2023 the ratio was already 3:1 .

Counting Microsoft’s money: Revenue from sales of Xbox consoles fell by 31%

Against the backdrop of slowing console sales and the growth of the Game Pass audience, Xbox management decided to change strategy. For example, some games – Sea of Thieves, Grounded, Hi-Fi Rush and Pentiment – were released on PlayStation and Nintendo Switch.
