The Pixel 8 will have a 3-year warranty for a display defect but the Pixel 8 Pro will not be covered
Google has extended its repair program for Pixel 8 phones afflicted with a pink vertical line, but strangely the screen anomaly won’t be covered for the Pixel 8 Pro.
Google announced on its Pixel Phone Help portal that it is extending its repair program for Pixel 8s exhibiting vertical lines and flickering. The new post-update policy allows Pixel 8 owners to fix this issue under warranty, up to three years after purchase. The defect is described by Google as “a vertical line that goes from the bottom of the display to the top or a flickering of the display”, but from the various testimonies online it also emerges that the line is usually pink.
For Google, however, not all devices with the issue will be eligible: Google or an authorized repair partner will have to determine that it is eligible for the extension based on the phone’s serial number. Curiously, the Pixel 8 Pro is not included in this extension of the repair, even if there are user testimonials that highlight how this model can also show vertical lines of this type.

Pink line of dead pixels and warranty question

This isn’t the first time Google has had to deal with users experiencing glitches, bugs and other quirks in Pixel phones, but most date back to some of the first generations of Pixels and their predecessors, the Nexus. But even shortly after the Pixel 8 and 8 Pro launched in late 2023, users reported ripple-like physical defects appearing on their displays.
Google’s standard hardware warranty still lasts two years in Italy with no such extension, though the company now promises seven years of software and security operating system updates on all Pixel 8 phones, including the cheaper Pixel 8a.
Beyond this possible flaw, however, Pixel 8 has one of the best value for money among all new Google smartphones: equipped with hardware and software features similar to those of the Pixel 8 Pro, but with much more compact dimensions and a price of far inferior, Google Pixel 8 can be considered the best buy of the family especially if we take into account that the technical superiority of the Pro in terms of photography is somehow dampened by the intervention of artificial intelligence. Find more details on this opinion in our Google Pixel 8, the review of the most compact and economical smartphone in the Pixel range .
