THE FIRST DESCENDANT: 5 THINGS TO KNOW ABOUT THE FREE-TO-PLAY LOOTER SHOOTER

The moment that looter shooter players have been waiting for has arrived: The First Descendant is now available on PC and consoles, so players can start grinding to unlock characters and weapons. If you’re new to this new free-to-play game, here are a few things you should know before you start downloading.

It’s inspired by Destiny…

Among the various sources of inspiration for the developers of The First Descendant we find Destiny, the now long-running live service from Bungie (by the way, have you read our review of Destiny 2 The Final Form ?). One of the elements that are taken from the first-person shooter is the structure of the game world, which is not a large open world but a set of open maps that can be freely explored. Just like patrol areas, these areas allow players to meet other users, start primary or secondary activities and collect some resources.

…And to Warframe

Another big title that influenced The First Descendant is Warframe. From the free to play signed by Digital Extremes, the looter shooter Nexon mainly inherits the progression system. In The First Descendant there are many different characters, each with unique abilities and aesthetic characteristics. Although it is possible to use the wallet to unlock them all, players can also farm to obtain each hero for free : exactly like in Warframe, the game activities have a percentage chance of rewarding the player with rare items that, put together, allow you to ‘craft’ the desired Descendant, so with a little effort you can even unlock the provocative Bunny Ultimate for free .

It’s also available on PS4 and One

Although The First Descendant is a product that focuses heavily on the technical aspect and boasts the presence of Unreal Engine 5 as its graphics engine, the development team did not want to leave behind those who continue to play on older generation consoles. Unlike other more recent products that do not support PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, The First Descendant is also available on these platforms and can be downloaded completely free of charge.

Supports cross-play and cross-save

Among the many features supported by The First Descendant we also find cross-play and cross-progression . In both cases, these are excellent features, as they allow players to live the Nexon experience without any type of barrier. By creating an account and connecting it to the various profiles (Xbox, PlayStation and Steam) you can switch from one platform to another while maintaining all the progress and with the possibility of playing with all your friends, regardless of the device used.

You don’t need a subscription to play

Since it is free to play, The First Descendant can be played anywhere without any additional cost . Aside from PC users, who never have to pay to use online features through Steam, console players can download and launch the looter shooter for free even if they don’t have an active subscription to Xbox Game Pass Core or PlayStation Plus Essential (or higher tiers).
