THE DEVELOPMENT TIMES OF SENUA'S SAGA HELLBLADE 2 WILL SURPRISE YOU

The wait for Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2 is finally coming to an end, but it’s been a long time indeed. The game was announced at the Game Awards in December 2019, so it will arrive on shelves ( digital only ) four and a half years after the official presentation. Thanks to the Ninja Theory boss, we now know why it took so long.

We always believed that at the time of the announcement it had already been in development for some time, given that the first chapter had been on the market since 2017 and the first trailer for Hellblade 2 was presented as in-engine , but things were not they are not like that at all. During an interview granted to Kinda Funny Games, the boss of Ninja Theory Dom Matthews revealed that the work on Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2 actually began only in 2020 , more precisely after the studio ended its commitments with the ill-fated Bleeding Edge , released in March 2020.

In other words, at the time of the announcement at the 2019 Game Awards Hellblade 2 had not yet entered development . This explains several things, including the subsequent and extremely prolonged silence from Ninja Theory and the two years we had to wait for the first gameplay video of Hellblade 2 , shown in December 2021 once again taking advantage of the stage of Geoff Keighley’s Game Awards.

Was it worth waiting so long? We’ll find out in a few days, since the game comes out on Tuesday 21 May on PC and Xbox Series X|S , immediately becoming part of the Game Pass catalog like all Microsoft IPs. At 10:00 on the same day, reviews of Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2 will also appear online , offering us an even more complete picture of the situation.
