Gray Zone Warfare is a new hype shooter on Steam that has sold more than 500,000 copies in just a few days, and is one of the new hits of TikTok owner Bytedance, which financed the development of the Czech studio Madfinger Games.
Gray Zone Warfare entered Steam Early Access on April 30, and since then the number of copies sold has exceeded 500 thousand – thanks to fairly aggressive advertising among streamers.
Moreover, the press release claims that 250,000 of these users purchased one of Gray Zone Warfare’s “DLC editions.” This means that half of the entire player base has purchased the enhanced edition of the FPS game.
Gray Zone Warfare is so popular that it even surpassed Manor Lords on the Steam bestseller chart. Although the city builder sold a million copies in just one day, the pace has since slowed and Gray Zone Warfare now ranks higher, behind only the free-to-play Counter-Strike 2 on Steam’s bestseller list.
That’s not to say Gray Zone Warfare’s launch was flawless. The game has “mixed” reviews on Steam, with the main complaint being that the shooter is very poorly optimized and players often experience stuttering and crashes.
In a nutshell, Gray Zone Warfare is a PvPvE game set in a massive jungle where you join a private military company and explore a large MMO-style island. There are survival mechanics and active battles with the enemy, controlled by both players and AI.
