OVERWATCH 2: THE STORY MISSIONS WOULD ALREADY BE AT THE END OF THE LINE ACCORDING TO A REPORT

After publishing the first ones for Season 6 in 2023, Blizzard Entertainment immediately specified that Overwatch 2’s story missions would arrive slowly, thus inviting fans not to get loaded with expectations. Apparently, however, this project may already be at the end of the line.

According to what emerges from a report by Kotaku , which got in touch with anonymous sources linked to Blizzard, new PvE content aimed at delving into the history of Overwatch 2 and its characters may not become reality , therefore leading to the stop of their distribution. The reasons behind this move, according to Kotaku sources, would be due to the failure to achieve the quality standards imposed by Blizzard, which would therefore have blocked the further development of the planned PvE content.

It also seems that Blizzard’s plans included the intention to publish three PvE missions every year and a half : some of the new PvE activities planned would already be fully playable from start to finish, while others would instead still be in the concept phase and therefore very far from the completion of the works. However, what has been achieved so far would not have satisfied the company’s top management who therefore decided not to continue further.

The same sources also cited alleged difficulties in adapting Overwatch 2’s PvP gameplay to a PvE setting, although much of the team was eager to make such content a reality. Clearly at the moment there are no official confirmations on the matter, but considering that the announced layoffs at Activision Blizzard would also have affected the team behind the narrative content of Overwatch 2, the chances of new PvE additions arriving in the future are becoming increasingly unlikely.
