While not everything is perfect and there are some inconsistencies, the series introduced one important thing that will most likely become canon. In the Fallout series, they showed a map of the location of all the Vaults on the continent.

Additionally, the map overlay is not 100% perfect, so locations may differ slightly from those in the game.
As you can see, a significant part of the Vaults is concentrated in the Eastern United States. There is also one Shelter in Canada.
In addition, one of the shelters seems to be located somewhere on the water or on an island – one of the easternmost points.
