Greg Stychen, the creator of the popular city-building sim Manor Lords, has dismissed suggestions that the game uses generative AI to create graphics.
The upcoming Manor Lords update, due out in the “coming weeks,” will add crossbows, fish ponds, and more to the game. Among the new features are additional character portraits for the player to choose from. One Reddit user suggested that the images “look AI-generated.”
Stychen quickly dispelled these speculations , stating that “it is not yet possible to generate such quality using AI.” He also jokingly added that “it is not worth insulting the character artist Beata Krzywdzińska by suggesting that AI did this.”
Krzywdzinskaya is the artist who created all the portraits of the lords and ladies in Manor Lords.
The use and impact of AI in the gaming industry has been a hot topic since last year. The situation is getting worse as some of the biggest publishers, including Activision Blizzard, have quietly adopted the technology. Recently, the voice actors union SAG-AFTRA announced plans to strike against companies like EA, Disney, and Activision to ensure protection from the use of AI.
