Manor Lords could have had the opportunity to fight the rebels, but the developer abandoned the idea – there was something wrong with it
The developer of the medieval city-planning simulator Manor Lords said that he was adding a rebellion system to the game, which allows you to fight off your own inhabitants to suppress the rebellion.
This mechanic was “prototyped and discarded,” Slavic Magic said on Twitter in response to a user’s question about settler approval ratings.
There was something wrong with raising a militia to fight your own villagers, it wasn’t satisfying and I remember testers joking that they were essentially setting their own houses on fire because the food variety was too low.
Question for @LordsManor! Got curious about something, you have villagers and you need yo keep their happiness high or else they’ll leave. What about the idea of villagers revolting and rebelling and forming their own Bandit like Camps, and having to fight them off. Thoughts? pic.twitter.com/3Jsnk1ZROT

It was prototyped but discarded, something felt off with rallying militia to fight your own villagers, like it wasn’t satisfying, and I remember testers making fun that they are basically torching their own homes cause food variety was too low 😅

Currently in Early Access, failing to meet your villagers’ needs and dropping your approval rating below 50% will result in your settlers packing up and leaving. This is an unfortunate consequence, although not inherently catastrophic, since keeping your residents in Manor Lords happy and earning their approval is quite easy if you have the right structures in place.
Increasing the consequences for negligence in this regard would raise the stakes when it comes to putting pressure on a player to correct his mistakes. But given that Manor Lords’ militia is made up of actual town residents, it would be quite odd to have your troops rally to fight themselves, although mercenaries or the lord’s personal retinue will have no problem teaching these peasants a lesson.
