City-building sensation Manor Lords has broken genre records on Steam, selling over one million copies in just over a day after launch.

Released on Friday, Manor Lords topped Steam’s wishlist for weeks leading up to launch, amassing three million potential players. Now, it looks like a significant portion of that has converted into buyers, as publisher Hooded Horse announced on Twitter that Manor Lords has already sold over 1 million copies.

The publisher claims that the peak number of concurrent players of 170,000 is the highest in the history of city building simulators. This record seems to extend to grand strategy, 4X and colony simulators as well. A quick look at the Steam Charts confirms Hooded Horse’s claim – the Cities Skylines franchise peaks at around 75,000 concurrent players, while Civilization 6 tops out at 162,000.It looks like Manor Lords got off to a surprisingly smooth start. Reviews have been positive and player numbers are extremely good, although the solo developer has had to step in from time to time for some last minute nerfs. Otherwise, the launch went very well for Early Access. There is still a lot of work ahead, but considering that the developer is now a millionaire, the process will definitely be worth it.
