Since the presentation we have referred to Wukong as a Soulslike game, now that we have had the opportunity to try it firsthand however we can say that Black Myth Wukong is not exactly a Soulslike , at least not entirely.
As emerged in our test of Black Myth Wukong ” Wukong cannot be properly defined as Soulslike” although it shares something with the genre made famous by FromSoftware , such as the altars where you can heal your mana, fill your water bottle with health points and reassign Spirit points. As underlined by our Giuseppe Arace ” the price to pay is the rebirth of the enemies defeated in the surrounding areas, but only those of basic level. The most obvious points of contact with Miyazaki’s masterpieces stop here, because Black Myth avoids chasing other forced similarities. ”
Black Myth Wukong is therefore an Action RPG with large settings and secondary paths but ” with a slightly labyrinthine navigability of the scenario, whose cost/benefit ratio is much more permissive than that typical of a Souls. Death does not involve the loss of experience points already earned, nor the need to return to the place of departure to recover the resources. “
Furthermore, unlike the Souls games, in this case the experience does not seem to be particularly hardcore , so much so that the developers made us understand that the structure of the level design includes the presence of strategically positioned torches to indicate the path to follow, without however appearing too invasive.
Black Myth Wukong is expected for August 20th on PC and PS5 , later the game will also arrive on the Xbox Series X/S family of consoles.
