Game director Jerk Gustafsson and production director John Jennings reported something about Indiana Jones and the Ancient Circle, whose story falls between the films Raiders of the Lost Ark and The Last Crusade, when an ancient relic is stolen from the museum inside the college where Indiana Jones works.
Intent on discovering the culprit and finding the object in question, the protagonist finds himself involved in an ancient conspiracy, centered on the theory of the Ancient Circle, that is, a mysterious alignment of ancient sites throughout the world, in turn connected to various artifacts.
Story, gameplay and other details
Obviously, there are other forces at work to find these objects, and Indiana Jones will have to fight against time and many enemies to get there before the others.
Indiana Jones and the Ancient Circle – In-depth deep dive video
According to what was reported by MachineGames, the idea of starting from the story of the Ancient Circle came from Todd Howard , who had been thinking about a game like this for years, and the possibility of exploiting this license created the ideal moment to dedicate himself to project.
The developers reported that the collaboration with LucasFilm was extraordinary and led to a slightly different dynamic compared to previous works, given that in this case it was a question of creating something new but deeply linked to a character and a well-known universe. consolidated.
Furthermore, compared to the previous ones by MachineGames, Indiana Jones and The Ancient Circle is more of an adventure , despite having moments of action, resulting also more cut based on a specific direction given by the use of the source material.
The game is a traveling adventure, as it takes us to explore various areas of the world : among these, Gustafsson and Jennings mentioned the Himalayas, which we saw in the recent Xbox Games Showcase trailer , in addition to Marshall College as a location initial, the Vatican, Egypt and the Pyramids area, the jungle in Thailand and in particular in the Sukhothai area, as well as various other settings which however have not been revealed.
As for the characters, most of these are new faces compared to the series, with the exception of course of Indiana Jones and Marcus Brody, but there are also some familiar faces who will return to the scene, but these too were not revealed in the video.
As for the gameplay, the developers have reiterated that it is built on the typical figure of Indiana Jones, that is, a character who mainly uses his mind to solve puzzles , rather than weapons, although he doesn’t disdain these either when necessary. This also determines a variation compared to the gameplay that MachineGames is more accustomed to, i.e. the shooter.
The game is primarily an adventure that focuses on puzzles and exploration, although it also has many more action moments. Depending on the situations, as we have also seen in the videos, we witness the transition from the first to the third person, and this has both narrative and gameplay reasons: in general, the subjective is used to immerse the player more in the character, but in some phases it becomes necessary to switch to the third person, both to tell the story with such an iconic protagonist, and because in some moments of gameplay there is the need to show things from a different perspective.
