GTA 6 Ends Up In Moige’s Crosshairs For Drug References In The Game
Moige, the Italian parents’ movement, has published a note attacking GTA 6, which the association believes includes references to drugs that could harm minors.
GTA 6 has ended up in the crosshairs of Moige , the Italian parents’ movement, in relation to the news that (also) the new chapter of the series by Rockstar Games will contain clear references to drugs.
“It is very serious that a video game that we have denounced several times for the dangerousness of its content continues to propose increasingly harmful content without any limit on its sale to a minor audience despite having a +18 qualification”, declared Antonio Affinita, director of Moige.
“Moreover, GTA has already had references to drugs, drug dealers and drug addicts practically since the first edition . This is therefore a ‘theme’ that is destined to become even more present, which is particularly serious.”
“There is a real regulatory Wild West on video games , with at most self-regulation rules that are poorly and poorly applied, as we also reiterated in our latest report ‘Sold to Minors’.”
“Therefore, urgent, strong and decisive action is needed from the Government , because video games are a form of communication that involves our children by transmitting unhealthy and deviant messages and behavioral styles, impacting their psycho-physical and emotional health perhaps more than TV.”
Who is responsible for enforcing the rule?
As Moige rightly pointed out, GTA 6 and all previous episodes of the series have a PEGI 18 rating , which serves to indicate to parents, responsible for purchases made by their minor children, that these are products recommended for an adult audience only.

Therefore, even in the presence of retailers who circumvent these indications, it is always and in any case the parents who must exercise the necessary control to ensure that their children do not purchase works written and created with an exclusively adult target audience in mind, a discussion which can also be extended to any other work of fiction.
