Take-Two informed us last week that GTA 6 will release in the fall of 2025 . Now, in an interview with CNBC, Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick was asked about the release of the open-world game and how the publisher feels about it.
In short, Zelnick explained that the release date is also defined internally based on how many bugs need to be fixed. He adds, however, that in the case of a game like GTA 6 the point is not just to fix the bugs and make sure that the game is valid at launch, but to aim high, even to perfection .
It’s about creating an experience that “no one has ever seen before” . This is certainly no small objective and Take-Two is focusing a lot on this new game, considering the stratospheric success of GTA 5 and its online mode.
Zelnick’s words on GTA 6
Zelnick was asked how the release date is typically determined internally, and noted that one can look at the “number of bugs in a title” to understand where the game is at. “For example, we each make sure we have as few bugs as possible in a title before we release it.”
“However, in the case of an extraordinary title, for which there are extraordinary expectations, it’s not about bugs. It’s about creating an experience that no one has ever seen before, and Rockstar Games seeks perfection. Perfection is difficult to achieve to measure “.
Take-Two still feels confident at least when it comes to the 2025 release window, saying that “the industry experiences slippages and we are not immune to that. However, we have tightened the time frame because we are very confident in those times.”
