GS Group: The share of Chinese smartphones in the Russian market has reached 79%

Analytical firm GS Group has published a report on the volume of the smartphone market in Russia for 2023. It is reported that the share of Chinese smartphones has reached 79% over the past 12 months and continues to grow.

Xiaomi remained the most popular brand among Russians in 2023. In second place are Infinix and Tecno smartphones. Next are Samsung and Apple. The latter remains the market leader in terms of revenue.

Despite the official departure of Apple and Samsung, the open door policy still helps them maintain their positions in the Russian Federation. However, the technological growth of the “Chinese” is already allowing them to move from competition in price to a race for technical characteristics, reliability and service policy.

  • In 2023, smartphone supplies to Russia increased by 13%, to 29.5 million units. GS Group analysts associate the growth in supplies with the low base effect in 2022
  • More than 90% of the total imports into the country were the total supplies of giants – Xiaomi, Realme, Samsung, Apple, Huawei and Honor, as well as the infinix and Tecno brands (belonging to the Transsion holding)
  • Transsion imported into the Russian Federation a little less over the year than the leader Xiaomi, and the same amount as Apple, Samsung and Huawei imported together
  • China is systematically increasing the share of smartphone supplies to the Russian Federation, while its competitors are losing ground, falling in volume by 2-3 times compared to 2021
  • Apple managed to increase its export volume to Russia, but the company still could not rise above fifth place; in 2022 the company closed the top three in the Russian Federation

Earlier, representatives of GS Group said that imports of tablets to Russia have been declining for the fourth year in a row.
