The Gears of War: E-Day team explains that the aim of the game is to make us experience the Locust invasion minute by minute and that the adventure will cover more than 24 hours. Let’s see what was revealed.
During the Xbox Games Showcase in June, Microsoft fielded a large number of high-level products, closing the conference with Gears of War E-Day , a prequel to the entire saga set 14 years before the events of the original game. This chapter, as is easy to guess from the name, will follow the events of Emergency Day, when the Locusts invaded the planet. However, this does not mean that the adventure will literally take place within a single day.
Gears of War: E-Day will be set within multiple days , as confirmed by Gears creative director Matt Searcy.

Speaking to GamesRadar+ during a group interview at Summer Game Fest 2024, Searcy revealed that while the focus of the prequel is the Locust Horde invasion itself, the E-Day story also includes some preparations and, presumably, the consequences of the event, extending beyond the confines of a 24-hour day.

“It’s not about one day, it’s about multiple days,” Searcy said. “But it’s about the event, like it’s about being with these characters from the moment that, you know, [the invasion] is about to happen, and [it’s about] being with them every minute , through the days while everything happens in the city and to really experience it through their eyes, both what’s happening to them, and what’s happening to the city around them, to the people around them, to the other characters.”
The impression therefore is that the game will make us experience in an intense way a period of time longer than 24 hours, but still short.
