Firesprite confirms to be among the studios affected by the layoffs of Sony’s PlayStation division
With a message on social media, Firesprite spoke about the layoffs that have occurred in recent months within its workforce, as part of the staff cuts announced by SIE in February.
Firesprite , one of PlayStation Studios’ largest teams and located in England, has confirmed that it is one of the studios affected by staff cuts ordered by Sony Interactive Entertainment last February. As explained in a message on
“Like many other teams at SIE and PlayStation Studios, Firesprite has been affected by the layoffs announced in February of this year,” Firesprite’s message reads. “The last few months have been an incredibly challenging time for our firm as we have undergone a difficult and lengthy consultation process. During this time, we have been focused on assisting all those affected by these upsetting circumstances.”
“As the consultation period draws to a close, we would like to extend our deepest gratitude to all the incredible and talented colleagues who will always remain part of our history. We face the future with resilience and determination, united in our vision to deliver unforgettable gaming experiences to our players.”
PlayStation staff cuts
As mentioned at the beginning, the staff cuts mentioned by Firesprite were decided in February by Sony, which at the time announced the dismissal of 900 people within the PlayStation division . This led to the permanent closure of London Studio , the team responsible for several VR games, and work on a liveservice multiplayer game, which will never see the light of day.

As for Firesprite, the studio was purchased in 2021 when at the time it had around 250 developers, many more than many other companies on British soil. The company in turn acquired Fabrik Games the same year , expanding its workforce. At the moment, according to rumors and information leaks, the team is working on a horror game exclusively for PS5 , which apparently will also be made into a film.
