In an interview with Kinda Funny Games on YouTube, Todd Howard was asked if Bethesda had considered making Fallout games in places other than America.
My point is that part of the Fallout thing is “American naivety. And so it’s normal for us to recognize these other areas now. But our plan is to mostly stay in the US.
Howard notes that another motivating factor is the desire to preserve the mysteries:
In any world, I don’t feel the need to answer [everything]. It’s okay to leave riddles or questions… I think that’s good.
Howard remembers the Elder Scrolls games and fans’ desire to see more of the world’s landscapes.
I’m known for saying that the worst thing you can do to a mysterious land is to remove the veil of secrecy. Let the mysterious lands remain mysterious.
On the other hand, maybe Fallout could do with shaking things up a bit – if the hype around Fallout: London is anything to go by, there’s definitely a hunger for something completely different. Moreover, many fans are also interested in finding out what happened to their native land 200 years after the nuclear apocalypse.
