ELDEN RING SHADOW OF THE ERDTREE RUNNING BADLY ON PC? MAYBE IT’S THE MOUSE’S FAULT HOW TO FIX

According to FromSoftware, some of the new performance issues noticed by Elden Ring players after the launch of Shadow of the Erdtree are due to third-party mouse software.

With the release of the Shadow of the Erdtree expansion, some PC players have noticed performance issues, particularly more frequent stuttering , which is also one of the reasons why the game received a large number of negative reviews on Steam. And perhaps now the cause has been identified.

The problem and the solution

The post from FromSoftware’s Japanese support account reads: “In the PC version of Elden Ring, the framerate may not be stable when the game is running with a mouse-related application in the background. If this happens, try playing the game after stopping the mouse application.”

According to what was reported by the Automaton portal , the solution was first identified by the user @ECHIZEN_KURAGE_ who a few days ago wrote: “The cause of the stuttering problem that has been occurring since the Elden Ring patch was published has been identified. It seems that for some reason the game is incompatible with the mouse gesture application I use regularly, Kazaguru Mouse. I temporarily disabled it and the problem is resolved.”

The hope is clearly that the DIY fix proposed by FromSoftware is only a temporary solution , while waiting for an official patch that solves the problem at its root. It must be said, however, that even with these issues resolved, the game presents the same problems and shortcomings as two years ago on all platforms. In particular on PC, as also noted by Digital Foundry in its analysis of Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree , the maximum framerate is still locked at 60 fps, there are no options for ultrawide, ray tracing leaves much to be desired and there is no support for modern upscalers like DLSS, FSR and XeSS.

All the framerate problems noted at launch also remain, a sign that for tech enthusiasts, despite “Elden Ring being a huge financial success for FromSoftware, no money has been reinvested to improve the technical quality of the game” and “on every platform, we see a developer who continually ignores fundamental technical problems.”
