Thomas Morgan from Digital Foundry has released a technical analysis of the Fallout 4 update for PC, as well as PS5 and Xbox Series X|S consoles. Tech expert Eurogamer criticized the update, calling it buggy on Xbox and disappointing on PC and PS5.
On PC, for example, the support for ultra-wide monitors is crooked – the picture is simply stretched wide, and not tailored to native 21:9. It is also impossible to officially make Fallout 4 work above 60 FPS .
- There is no HDR support on consoles, the Xbox version suffers from a broken Quality and Performance switch, although Bethesda says that this is intended – they say, 60 FPS everywhere, but the target resolution changes
- On PS5, a quality mode with 30 FPS or 40 FPS is available – in this preset the picture is similar to “ultra” on PC, although there are exceptions – for example, shadows at the “medium” settings
- The resolution on PS5 and Xbox Series X jumps from 2016p to 4K – in some places there are drops of up to 50-55 FPS, on Series S – 1080-1440p
- In some aspects, Fallout 4 on Xbox Series X|S lags behind the One X version, such as lower draw distance; PS5 shadows are close to the PS4 Pro version
- On PS5 you can achieve native 1440p if you set this resolution as the target resolution in the console settings
