Cities Skylines 2 just got better — patch fixes salaries and roundabouts
It looks like we’re entering a new era for Cities: Skylines 2. Colossal Order’s city-building sequel has struggled over the past year and into the first half of 2024. Fan sentiment has been low, performance issues are still present, and the simulation, especially in regards to in-game finances, has been a pain. A major economic patch has been a turning point, but CO isn’t resting on its laurels. In the new update, the studio has made significant changes to the salary system, roundabouts, and buildings, and is also providing free content to all players.
The latest update for Cities: Skylines 2 addresses some of the issues left over from the economy patch. The most significant change was a fix for an issue where building upgrades to service buildings would inexplicably double employee salaries, causing maintenance costs to skyrocket. A bug in offices was also fixed where bosses would constantly fire workers before the minimum number of employees was reached, causing false unemployment and decreased productivity.
As for important roundabouts, they now have more variety. The new patch adds zoned roundabouts, as well as eight different decorative objects that can be used to customize them. This significantly improves the appearance and functionality of these important road infrastructure elements.
The patch also focuses on fine-tuning and aesthetic perfection. Now, after placing trees, you can manually change them to another state – for example, make them autumnal, to give the city a certain atmosphere. New textures for concrete, sand, pavement and grass have been added, as well as three new tile surfaces.
Colossal Order also adds 27 new variations of service buildings, including new police stations, post offices, water towers, parks and parking lots. There are new service vehicles with updated models and liveries.
