HOW DOES DESMOND’S STORY END IN ASSASSIN’S CREED 3?
Assassin’s Creed III marked the conclusion of the saga of Desmond Miles , the contemporary protagonist of the first five games in the Ubisoft series . The epilogue had important consequences for the franchise, laying the foundations for the narrative development of subsequent episodes.
Do you remember how Desmond’s story ends in Assassin’s Creed III? After reliving Connor Kenway ‘s memories through the Animus, the young man manages to open the locked door inside the Temple of the Forerunners located in Cagliari, Sardinia, finding himself in front of a pedestal that could change the fate of the human race forever.
According to what was revealed by Juno , a deity of the First Civilization present in the form of a hologram, the pressure of the device will allow humanity to be saved and freed, but will lead to Desmond’s death . An alternative is instead revealed by the goddess Minerva : by not activating the device and letting the solar cataclysm take its course, putting an end to the current human civilization, Desmond will become the spiritual guide of the survivors , thus giving rise to the birth of a new civilization. His teachings will be passed down from generation to generation, but as the centuries pass they will then be distorted and used to enslave the masses as has already happened in all previous eras. The history of the world and of the human race would therefore be destined to repeat itself . Minerva finally adds that Juno’s goal has always been to free herself and to set in motion her plans for a new enslavement of the entire human race.
Having Forerunner DNA in his body, Desmond is the only one who can activate the device, but he finds himself faced with a crucial moral dilemma: listen to Juno’s words and therefore activate the device, saving humanity in exchange for his life, or trust Minerva’s words and let history take its course. The boy finally decides to sacrifice his life , confident in the fact that, if Juno’s goal is truly to subjugate the human race, the Assassins would have found a way to stop her. Desmond activates the device and the solar cataclysm is averted, but the resulting shock, as expected, kills him. Juno is now free, ready to put her new plans into motion.
