New mod for The Witcher 3 brings back deleted boat races
Modder MerseyRockoff has published a new mod for The Witcher 3 on Nexus that restores a series of boat races cut from the final version of the game using CD Projekt RED’s recently released REDKit tool.
The modder explained:
With the release of REDkit, 100% of the boat racing script was found in the game files, allowing the restoration process to begin. Only text and audio files were found. The rest was created from scratch based on CDPR’s letter and careful examination of the files. This means that all conversations, characters, notifications, and journal entries featured in the mod were originally written by CDPR, but recreated and animated by me using REDkit. At the time of release, this mod for The Witcher 3 only supports English localization. Support for other languages ββis planned for a future update.
Now there are 4 races (regattas) in the game:
- Novigrad Regatta – Start from the notice board in Novigrad Harbour
- Oxenfurt Regatta β Start from the Oxenfurt notice board
- Coxswain Race – Starts from the Kaer Trolde Village Notice Board
- Wreck Rally – Starts from the Holmstein message board, but the races take place in the Faroe Islands.

You can also go straight to the start, skipping the notice boards if you know where they are, and talk to the race master/hostess.
The mod works with both the classic version of The Witcher 3 and the improved “next-gen” version. The installation process is quite simple: you need to copy the downloaded modBoatRaces folder to the The Witcher 3\mods section. Then copy the dlcBoatRaces folder to the The Witcher 3\dlc folder. Finally, check for conflicts with the Script Merger tool, merging them if necessary.
To uninstall the mod, simply delete the corresponding folders. However, the modder warns that you should not do this while one of the boat racing quests is active.
