The author of Elden Ring follows Satoru Iwata’s philosophy on layoffs: he won’t let them happen
For Hidetaka Miyazaki, author of Elden Ring, and president of FromSoftware, the right philosophy on layoffs is that of Satoru Iwata.
Hidetaka Miyazaki, the author of Elden Ring and Dark Souls among others , as well as the current president of FromSoftware, has declared that he follows the philosophy of Satoru Iwata , the late former president of Nintendo who left us in 2015, as regards layoffs.
Miyazaki touched on the topic in an interview with the PC Gamer magazine, when we started talking about the enormous amount of layoffs that have occurred in the industry, with the closure of entire development studios. Miyazaki has no intention of allowing this to happen within FromSoftware. His view on it is the same as expressed in the past by Iwata, who he quoted directly.
Miyazaki’s words
“I think it was the old former president of Nintendo, Iwata-san, who said that ‘ people who are afraid of losing their jobs are afraid of doing good things .’ I’m paraphrasing, but I totally agree with that point of view. I think it’s true. And I believe that the people of Kadokawa, our parent company, understand my thoughts. Although we cannot say with absolute certainty, it is impossible to predict what the future holds for From and Kadokawa, at least as long as this company is under my control. responsibility, I won’t let that happen. So I hope our players and our fans can feel safe.”

Iwata spoke these words during a very difficult period for Nintendo. However, he didn’t want to fire anyone. Indeed, he reduced his salary so as not to affect the employees . Currently FromSoftware is a very thriving company, which has one success after another, so it is certainly not in dire straits. Let’s hope it stays that way, so that Miyazaki doesn’t have to choose.
