Dragon Age: The Veilguard’s progression mechanics are inspired by Final Fantasy 10 and 12
The Dragon Age series, which began as a CRPG, has moved away from its roots and focused on action over time, and Dragon Age: The Veilguard takes this trend even further. While the game’s combat will be significantly more focused on fast-paced action than Origins or even Inquisition, the progression mechanics look set to remain complex and nuanced.
In an interview with RPG Site, game director Corinne Bush said that Dragon Age: The Veilguard will feature a “huge” skill tree that will change depending on the chosen class. In addition, the game will add more options and progression paths in the form of specializations, of which each class will have several.
Bush noted that The Veilguard’s progression mechanics will be “heavily inspired” by Final Fantasy 10 and Final Fantasy 12, which she considers some of her favorite games. While the progression options themselves will be similar to those in Final Fantasy 12, their presentation will be closer to the system from Final Fantasy 10.

In addition to specializations, each class skill tree will be divided into three categories, each of which relates to different types of skills and upgrades.
It is divided into three sections in addition to specializations. In the case of the Warrior, you have a defense-oriented section, a weapon-oriented section, and an ability-oriented section. So if you want to get to Reaper’s spec, you might want to go through abilities instead of defense.
Party members will also have their own unique skills, but with fewer options so as not to overwhelm the player. The focus will be on changing the mechanics of each character’s main abilities, of which each character will have five.
They also have unique skill trees. These trees are organized around their individual abilities. Once you’ve unlocked their full set of abilities, each tree offers a choice where you can improve offline use, reduce cooldowns, or add additional effects to the ability.
Luckily, the game allows you to freely redistribute your skills to make the system accessible and friendly.
Dragon Age: The Veilguard will be released this fall on PC, PS5 and Xbox Series. Additional details should be shared in the Q&A session today.
