Life is Strange: Double Exposure is back with a 19-minute gameplay video published by Square Enix, while a developer diary talks about the ending of the first game and how it will be connected.

Square Enix and the developers of Deck Nine Games have published a long gameplay video of Life is Strange: Double Exposure , along with interviews with Hannah Telle, the voice actress of the protagonist Max Caulfield, and Jonathan Stauder and the narrative director Felice Kuan.

The film shows approximately 19 minutes of gameplay coming from what would appear to be the prologue of the new narrative adventure and which serves to reintroduce players to Max, now older and more mature, and two key supporting characters, Murph and Safi , the latter at the center of a mystery that will unleash a new power for the protagonist, now able to travel between two parallel timelines.

The ending of the first Life is Massacre and how players will be able to import their decisions into Double Exposure

In the interview with the developers of Deck Nine we learn that Double Exposure will be respectful of both endings of the first game in the series and that therefore basically there isn’t a truly canonical one

“Players who played the first Life is Strange will remember that there was a crucial decision to make at the end of the game,” Stauder said. “It was really important to Deck Nine that if we did another adventure with Max that the game would be respectful of both of those endings.”

” There is no canon ending , as far as we’re concerned, to the first game. Deck Nine respects that decision, with Max’s thoughts, his journal, his text messages, his character interactions, what he reveals about his past to his new friends, everything reflects that final choice.”

Subsequently, narrative director Felice Kuan revealed that players will be able to indirectly import the choices they made in the first Life is Strange through a dialogue between Safi and Max in the initial stages of Double Exposure.

“Safi and Max will talk at the beginning of the game, and Arcadia Bay will come up quite naturally. So in this dialogue players will be able to make the same choices or try a different path,” Kuan said.
