Will it be possible to play with just one character in Assassin’s Creed Shadows? Here is Ubisoft’s response
According to the words of associate game director Simon Lemay-Comtois, Assassin’s Creed Shadows will not impose great limits on which of the two protagonists to use during the adventure.
One of the most interesting features of Assassin’s Creed Shadows is undoubtedly the presence of two protagonists, each characterized by a very different approach. The samurai Yasuke specializes in direct confrontations, while the ninja Naoe prefers to use the shadows to silently eliminate her targets. Clearly there are players who prefer one style over the other and Ubisoft knows this well and in fact in most cases the game will not force users to take on the role of one character or the other .
The confirmation came from associate game director Simon Lemay-Comtois in an interview with VG247, in which he explains that if they want, players will be able to tackle most of the game with just one of the two characters , while encouraging them to play as both. “It’s a balanced approach. Most of the content can be played by both, and there’s no hard limit that an activity is only for one character,” Lemay-Comtois said. “The story moments are character-focused, but the rest of the game is open-ended and the progression incentivizes you to change, because when you play with just one character for a while, that character will collect items to use with the other. So both characters progress together.”
You cannot change protagonist at any time
Another detail that emerged from the same interview is that it will not be possible to switch from controlling Yasuke to Naoe and vice versa at any time.
“We were really interested in this idea of committing to the build you have at the time. Early on we tried to say, ‘We know we want stealth, we know we want combat, but we don’t want players to be able to switch between characters. ‘more during these phases,'” Lemay-Comtois reported. “The weapon you have, the armor you have, is what you have to deal with the situation at that given moment. Before you can change, you have to remove yourself from that situation.”
