According to what was reported by Fortune, Apple is about to conclude a deal with OpenAI to bring ChatGPT to its devices.
According to a Fortune article , Apple is about to close a major deal with OpenAI to bring its technologies to the iPhone, in particular ChatGPT , as part of the company’s effort to spread artificial intelligence more widely on its devices.
The two companies are apparently defining the details for what could be an epochal deal, capable of spreading chatbots and the like even more. If successful, Apple could integrate OpenAI’s ChatGPT features into iOS 18 , the new version of the Cupertino company’s mobile operating system.
For now there is no confirmation of the news, but Fortune guarantees the reliability of its sources, who have asked to remain anonymous. According to reports, Apple is also in discussion with Alphabet, the company that owns Google , over the use of Gemini, its chatbot. For now, however, there would be no agreement.
An inevitable path
The agreement with OpenAI would be strategic for Apple, which has lagged behind other competing companies such as Samsung in the field of artificial intelligence . If it goes through, an announcement could arrive next month. The occasion could be the Worldwide Developers Conference, where Apple usually announces its new products and new features of its software.
According to Bloomberg , talks between OpenAI and Apple intensified in April. There’s currently no guarantee that any announcements will be expected anytime soon, however. OpenAI, Google and Apple did not comment on the news.
Last year Tim Cook , the CEO of Apple, said he personally uses ChatGPT, but spoke of issues that need to be resolved. For the occasion he also promised that Apple products would be enriched with functions related to artificial intelligence, albeit in a thoughtful way. We’ll see what will be announced in the near future.
