According to a new report, Xbox knows the next Fallout game is coming sooner rather than later and is working on it. After the release of Starfield, the Bethesda team moved on to The Elder Scrolls 6, a game they will be working on for the next few years. This means Fallout 5 probably won’t release until 2030 unless something changes. Because of this, Xbox knows it needs to change its approach, otherwise it will be a very long wait, which is not very reasonable given the popularity of the franchise.
There’s no word on how this will be done, but at least according to Xbox insider Jez Corden, such a plan exists. Corden claims that Xbox is making plans to release the next Fallout “sooner rather than later.” Corden didn’t share details, but there aren’t many options – either give another studio the opportunity to release their Fallout, or expand Bethesda Game Studios so that it can work on Fallout 5 in parallel with The Elder Scrolls 6.
If we are talking about the first option, then it will likely be a spin-off, and this is where Obsidian Entertainment could come into the picture. Obsidian Entertainment also owns Xbox, and is the only studio other than Bethesda that has extensive experience with Fallout. We’re talking about Fallout: New Vegas. If work on Fallout 5 has to be delayed until after The Elder Scrolls 6, Obsidian Entertainment may well be working on Fallout: New Vegas 2, which may be in even greater demand than Fallout 5.
Please note that for now all of this is nothing more than rumors. Corden is a well-known Xbox insider who has proven himself to be reliable in the past, but he has also been wrong on numerous occasions. Plus, even if this information is real, things can change.
