5 REASONS TO REPLAY UNCHARTED 4 A THIEF’S END: NATHAN DRAKE’S FINAL ADVENTURE

Since its first installment on PS3, Uncharted has become one of the iconic series of PlayStation gaming over time . Nathan Drake’s epic finally concluded with Uncharted 4 A Thief’s End : here are five reasons why it remains a memorable game and worth replaying in 2024.

The final chapter of the Nathan Drake story

Even though the series didn’t officially end here and later expanded with the arrival of Uncharted: The Lost Legacy, Uncharted 4 A Thief’s End is the last to feature Nathan Drake as the main protagonist .

This is not an insignificant detail: the one written by Neil Druckmann and Bruce Straley is the farewell journey of a character who has become one of the most beloved by PlayStation fans. Intending to finally enjoy a “normal” life, Nathan Drake will feel the call of adventure one last time and will end up in the deep forest of Madagascar in search of new esoteric treasures.

Influence of The Last of Us

Naughty Dog had already shown that it could create intriguing and memorable characters with the first three Uncharted games, but it was with The Last of Us that the Sony studio raised the bar in terms of quality in terms of writing. The evolution that the development team went through in telling the story of Joel and Ellie is reflected in Uncharted 4 , which offers a level of complexity and depth never seen before in the series.

Be careful , though : the game is not distorted and continues to have its typical exaggerated and explosive sequences, however there is also room for quieter sections that will give the characters (and the audience) moments of reflection and introspection.

The graphics are still impressive today

In addition to creating memorable characters and engaging gameplay systems, Naughty Dog is also known for creating some of the most visually stunning games to be seen on consoles. The company’s work on PlayStation 3 was already extraordinary at the time, but with PlayStation 4, the team was able to make a leap forward that projected Uncharted 4 into the realm of photorealism (even if the overall impact may be stylized)

The impressive technical structure of the production was then further refined with the release of Uncharted Legacy of Thieves , a bundle containing Uncharted 4 and Uncharted: The Lost Legacy released on PC and PS5.

Much larger explorable areas full of secrets

Previous games in the Uncharted series have always had linearity as a core element, often helping to define the cinematic aspect of the experience. But with Uncharted 4 , things have changed a bit . While it is not an open world and linear sequences are absolutely present and central to the experience, Naughty Dog has given players much larger environments to explore , even aboard their jeep.

These “wide linear” levels have multiple branching paths, alternate routes, and environmental puzzles to solve. This not only gives players more choice in where they want to go, but also helps to extend the replayability of the campaign. Each path offers its own secrets, so replaying certain sections is essential for completionists.

More varied gameplay thanks to stealth

With the game’s larger environments comes the opportunity to approach battle in different ways . While previous entries had some small hints of stealth elements, they were games that were fundamentally focused on gunplay or in some cases melee combat.

Gunplay is still the core combat mechanic here, however stealth now becomes a real option for those who prefer it as an alternative. While Nathan Drake isn’t exactly known for his stealthiness, stealth, in conjunction with the expansion of the game’s areas, has effectively spiced up the series’ gameplay formula.
