5 REASONS TO REPLAY ASSASSIN’S CREED UNITY TEN YEARS LATER

5 REASONS TO REPLAY ASSASSIN'S CREED UNITY TEN YEARS LATER

It’s been almost exactly 10 years since the launch of Assassin’s Creed Unity , the first game designed entirely for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One generation . The adventure starring the French Assassin Arno Victor Dorian became a reality in November 2014, albeit with a rather problematic start.

Due to the serious technical problems that afflicted it on day one, as well as conveying the feeling of not having managed to make the series take a real leap forward, Assassin’s Creed Unity is still considered one of the most controversial episodes of the Ubisoft series , one of those that divided critics and audiences in two. A decade after its debut on the market, however, it could be interesting to rediscover it: we give you 5 reasons to replay Assassin’s Creed Unity in 2024 .

The best parkour of the series

Technical problems and controversies aside, Unity has one merit that should not be underestimated: it is in fact considered the Assassin’s Creed with the best parkour of the series .

In terms of immediacy and fluidity, Ubisoft reached the maximum expression of these mechanics with the 2014 chapter, to the point that jumping and climbing between the buildings of Paris was a real pleasure. Such care that not even the subsequent Assassin’s Creeds have managed to improve or reproduce the same harmonious parkour seen on this occasion.

The allure of the French Revolution

Perhaps the historical setting has not been exploited properly in a narrative perspective (and in fact it could be considered among the most disappointing settings of Assassin’s Creed ), but the Paris of the French Revolution remains in any case a setting with a unique and incredibly evocative charm that could still enthrall more than one player.

Wandering around the city in the midst of the turmoil, with the people carrying on their rebellion, gives Unity a special atmosphere that is at least worth experiencing.

Goodbye technical problems

If you played it when it was first released, Unity probably left you very disappointed and dissatisfied due to its numerous technical problems that in some cases even risked making it completely unplayable.

The launch was indeed disastrous, however in the following months Ubisoft rolled up its sleeves to improve the situation and thus restore dignity to its product, finally succeeding . Replaying Unity today with all the patches installed means enjoying the experience offered by the work to the fullest, without a shadow of the very serious inconveniences that afflicted it at the time in 2014. Some bugs may occur from time to time, but nothing that this time could compromise the experience offered by the game.

The beauty of the interiors

The care that Ubisoft put into the characterization of the environments, especially regarding the interiors of the buildings , was truly impressive.

Never before that moment had an Assassin’s Creed achieved such care in every detail and particulars to seem almost photorealistic, transmitting the sensation of being a truly next-gen product for the standards of the time. The aesthetic characterization of the environments continues to make its beautiful figure even today despite the ten years that have passed since its launch.

The relationship between Arno and Elise

Even on the narrative front there were interesting ideas that gave a precise personality to this chapter. Specifically, the romantic relationship that binds the protagonist Arno to Elise de la Serre attracted attention , giving rise to crucial dynamics throughout the story.

This is because Arno becomes an Assassin while Elise is the daughter of a Templar Grand Master and therefore decides to follow in her father’s footsteps. Despite belonging to two factions that have been at war with each other for centuries, the strength of their bond is such that it transcends that same rivalry between Assassins and Templars, creating original events and situations in the narrative of Assassin’s Creed.
