3 THINGS WE WANT FROM RESIDENT EVIL 9: IS THE OPEN WORLD TWIST REALLY NECESSARY?

It’s now official: Capcom has announced Resident Evil 9 and, while not showing anything concrete about the project, they have revealed that they are actively working on it. A new main Resident Evil is therefore on the way, although it remains shrouded in mystery.

Regarding what we know about Resident Evil 9, numerous rumors have emerged in the past few months, however, between doubts and various denials from well-known insiders such as Dusk Golem, it is currently still difficult to actually understand what the work will offer fans. Aware that for now there is still nothing official about its contents, let’s try to focus on what we would like to see in Resident Evil 9 while waiting for an official presentation by Capcom:

Open World, but not too much

The most persistent rumors about the new Resident Evil speak of an Open World setting that would therefore be a real novelty for the series.

A similar idea could also be there to change the cards on the table a bit, however perhaps there is no need for a real turning point towards the open world. Programming freely explorable macro-areas , on the model of what has already been seen in Resident Evil Village and Resident Evil 4 Remake but with a much broader scope, could be a more functional idea for a Resident Evil.

New monstrosities to fight

The latest games in the series have offered enemies and monstrosities that are different from the typical standards of a Resident Evil, going beyond the concept of zombies, ganados or various infected. In Resident Evil 7 Biohazard we faced mycomorphs, while in Resident Evil Village we faced hungry hordes of werewolves.

It would therefore not be a bad idea to experiment again with the ninth chapter , perhaps drawing even more deeply from the horror mythology and thus giving life to new fearsome enemies to face with every resource available.

The Return of Chris Redfield

According to rumors, Leon Kennedy and Jill Valentine should be the protagonists of Resident Evil 9. There is clearly no confirmation on this, but in the most recent rumors there has practically never been any mention of Chris Redfield , the historical protagonist of the series and who also had a key role in the seventh and eighth episodes. Resident Evil Village ended with Chris ready to confront the BSAA after the disturbing discoveries on the use of bio-organic weapons by his old organization, without forgetting his unfinished business with The Connections , the mysterious group that from the shadows pulled the strings that triggered the events of the last Resident Evil. Without a doubt, having Leon and Jill

as protagonists again after so many years would be a joy for fans, however it would also be very strange to leave Chris aside after what happened in the last games and with all the issues still pending. All the more reason, therefore, we would like to see his return, with the plot of Resident Evil 9 bringing important developments on the BSAA and The Connections.
