3 GAMES WITH A REALLY DISAPPOINTING ENDING: HOW NOT TO MAKE AN EPILOGUE
A great game is not always characterized by a great epilogue: there are several cases of endings in video games that we just didn’t like and that could have been much better. And we could give several more examples.
Below we list three disappointing endings that left a bitter taste in the mouths of players:
Far Cry 5
Far Cry 5 is not really a true champion of narrative and the plot often remains in the background. However, this does not change the fact that the epilogues of the Ubisoft title are still strongly subdued for the way in which they unfold.
No matter what our final choice is, in both cases the villain Joseph Seed comes out victorious in his own way. Whether the nuclear apocalypse he desired is unleashed, or whether he is left free by the protagonist, Seed emerges from the dramatic situation with his head held high and the player is left with the feeling that everything he has done up to that point to stop him has been for nothing. Perhaps we could have aimed for something much more concrete and satisfying.
Middle Earth: Shadow of Mordor
Monolith Productions ‘ first Middle-earth game has proven to be an interesting product overall, but it stumbles right at the end. Middle-Earth Shadow of Mordor ends in a hasty and anticlimactic way, reducing the final battle with Sauron to a simple jumble of Quick Time Events that do not do justice to the adventure experienced up to that point. It’s a real shame to have stumbled right at the climax of the entire game.
Prince of Persia (2008)
Ubisoft again, this time with the 2008 Prince of Persia that caused several controversies with its ending, simply because it was not in the base game . The conclusion of the adventure is in fact not definitive and the epilogue was sold as a paid DLC, thus triggering negative reactions from fans.
We were in an era in which the concept of DLC was still in its infancy, but certainly this type of maneuver left many players speechless, especially considering that the 2008 adventure is one of the best Prince of Persia ever made by Ubisoft . A stain on a beautiful game that could definitely have been avoided.
